Smith Lakes, Hwy 49 Northern Minnesota

Episode 1 of 'Pretty places to see in Northern Minnesota' includes the Smith Lakes on Hwy 49 in Northern Minnesota. Hwy 49 joins off of Hwy 38 quite a ways north of Grand Rapids, MN, and that junction is marked as 'Smith Lake Road.'

Mr.J and I used to go canoeing on the Chain Lakes near here, but that access road is definitely a truck visit, not a car! So, here are the Smith Lakes, where the dirt road separates the two lakes in a stunning fashion. There are islands out on the lakes, and the water is clear and blue. I saw loons, frogs and fish - but they didn't sit still for the camera ;o) The lily pads were in bloom, in yellow and white.
